Shopkeepers protest slow pace of Domoria Bridge construction
Members of the Shopkeeper Association of Domoria Bridge organised a protest against the slow pace of construction work of Domoria Bridge. The shopkeepers maintained though it was a project of Railways but prior to that, a few works had to be completed by the MC authorities.
Talking to The Tribune, the shopkeepers maintained that the work started on December 2 and after over 35 days, the MC has failed to do the needful. The work of Railways will start once the nullah is plugged by the MC authorities. However, they remain busy with several other activities, rued the shopkeepers.
Sahib, one of the shopkeepers, said traders were suffering huge losses due to the construction work of Domoria Bridge. “We don’t know what to do? Some of us are paying heavy rents of the shops, which is around Rs 30,000 to 40,000. How can we afford the overheads when there is no income?,” asked the shopkeepers.
Another shopkeeper Shivam said they had approached the Railway authorities, but they maintain that unless the MC provided them clear lines, their work cannot be started.
The protesters said 90 days were given to complete this project and 35 days have passed, but nothing has been done so far.
