Six arrested for attacking two cops at restaurant
Two police officials who went to a restaurant at Subash Nagar after getting information about some youths creating a ruckus there were attacked by the miscreants. Six of them were arrested by the police and raids were being conducted to nab others.
The assailants were led by city’s notorious gangster Vishal Gill. Initially, the police were not sure about the identification of the assailants but during a probe, when the police checked the CCTV footage and conducted investigation, the gangster was seen in it.
The suspects have been identified as Anmol Gill of Amarpura, Divyanshu of New Subash Nagar, Chirag Yagota of New Hargobind Nagar, Kartik Baggan and Yugyanshu from Ghati mohalla and Suvansh Jalan of Hargobind Nagar. Vishal Gill, Jatin, alias Nanna, Kaku Shooter, Mohana Kanojia, Krishna Gill, Ashu, Suraj and four unidentified persons were at large in the case.
The complainant, ASI Amarjit Singh, said late on the night of November 26, he, along with ASI Kamal Kumar, was conducting a patrolling near Anandpura mohalla to keep a tab over anti-social elements. They got information that some youths carrying sharp weapons and baseball bats were creating ruckus in some restaurant in Subash Nagar and they were also abusing people sitting inside it. They
had also vandalised the restaurant to intimidate the customers.
“As we reached the scene, we saw some miscreants who were reportedly drunk. They were brandishing sharp weapons on the road and also threatening commuters, the ASI said.
“When we tried to stop the suspects, they attacked us with swords and sharp weapons (datars). In the attack, me and my colleague suffered injuries. The suspects also slapped me and pelted bricks at both of us,” he said.
He said the suspects were saying that they had come to take revenge from their opponent Gagan, who escaped from the restaurant. The assailants were saying that they have no fear of police or law and nobody can stop them.
The Assistant sub-inspector said on Saturday after registering a case against the youths, six were arrested by the police and a sharp weapon and a motorcycle were also seized from the suspects while raids were being conducted to nab the other miscreants who were at large.
SHO, Tibba police station, inspector Bhagatvir, said the assailants include gangster Vishal Gill, Suraj and others having criminal background.
Raids were being conducted to arrest other suspects. Gangster Vishal Gill and some other assailants were already wanted by the police in some criminal cases, the SHO said.
The SHO said the FIR was delayed as both policemen were injured and their statements were awaited.
