Snatching at wedding venue, woman loses 15-tola gold necklace

Suspect, accomplice booked; Incident captured in CCTVs

A major snatching incident occurred during a wedding ceremony at Hyatt Hotel on Ferozepur Road here on the night of November 22. Following the complaint of Vikram Mehra, a resident of Daad village in Ludhiana, the police registered a case against two unidentified suspects.

The complainant, Vikram Mehra, said on November 22, his relatives were present outside the hotel gate during the wedding ceremony. His 85-year-old aunt Ramila Mehra was also there. An unidentified youth entered the gathering, snatched a 15-tola gold necklace from her aunt’s neck and fled the scene.

The entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras.

Meanwhile, two youths on a motorcycle came to the place. One of them, posing as part of the gathering, approached the elderly woman, snatched her necklace before escaping from the scene. The footage shows two family members running after the suspect but he escaped on a bike, on which his accomplice was waiting for him.

Based on Mehra’s complaint, the police on Friday registered a case and launched further investigation. The police also procured the CCTV footage to identify the suspects. The CCTV footage from the hotel and other nearby locations was also being checked. The police said they would arrest both suspects soon.
