BJP Punjab spokesperson Kamaljit Soi has demanded a written apology from Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, MP (Ludhiana) and president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, for making caste and colour-based remarks against Buta Singh, former Union Home Minister of India. Soi has also demanded the registration of a criminal case.
In a complaint addressed to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes (SCSC), Soi has sought immediate legal and disciplinary action against Warring.
According to Soi, during a public meeting in Tarn Taran during campaigning for the by-election, Warring made caste- and colour-based remarks referring to Buta Singh—a revered national leader and former Union Home Minister.
“In his own televised clarification on News18 Punjab, Warring admitted to describing Buta Singh as ‘dark-complexioned (kaale rang de sardar, pathe paun waala)’, while claiming that his words were misunderstood,” said Soi.
Soi stated that such a public reference to a respected Dalit leader’s skin colour and community identity amounts to insult, ridicule and humiliation in public view — striking at the dignity of the Scheduled Caste (Mazhabi Sikh) community and violating constitutional guarantees of equality.
He further demanded that action be initiated against Warring under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
“Members of Parliament are expected to maintain the dignity of their office and refrain from using words or displaying acts that insult citizens or communities. This matter is not merely political — it is the moral and constitutional test of India’s commitment to equality. When those elected to represent the people make such caste or colour-based remarks, it undermines the very ideals of our Republic,” Soi added.
