Newly elected president of the Malaudh nagar panchayat Sonia Goyal announced to do her best to provide the best civic amenities in all wards without any discrimination.

She is confident that coordinated efforts of her colleagues would enable her to transform the town into a model one with all facilities required for dignified life of residents of the area.

Earlier in the day, Payal SDM Pardeep Bains and Executive Officer Harnarinder Singh had convened a meeting for electing the president, senior vice-president and vice-president of the nagar panchayat that was attended by all eleven councillors. Sonia Goyal, Rachhpal Singh and Balpreet Kaur, respectively, were declared elected unanimously during the meeting.

“Though I was elected from a ward reserved for women, now, I am supposed to look after interests of all residents, including men, women and children,” Sonia Goyal said, adding that she would coordinate with senior functionaries of various departments for revamping of facilities and services.

Strengthening of water supply, sewerage, street light and solid waste management would be focus areas under her direct supervision as she asserted to constitute special teams under the supervision of her other colleagues which would maintain liaison with other departments.

She called upon office-bearers of various social, religious and educational organisations of the town to stay connected with councillors of their respective wards and contribute to the development of their localities.

MLA Manwinder Singh Giaspura, who is also an associate member of the nagar panchayat, appreciated that Sonia Goyal, Rachhpal Singh and Balpreet Kaur had been elected president, senior vice-president and vice-president of the civic body unanimously. He assured to help the civic body undertake unprecedented development by fetching maximum grants from the state government by impressing upon Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

“As residents have placed full trust in candidates launched by our party, it is our turn to reciprocate and transform their dreams into reality,” he said.

A large number of supporters of the elected office-bearers organised a march through various wards and markets to mark the occasion.
