The initiative has been taken on the directions of Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal.
MC Executive Engineer (light branch) Manjitinder Singh Johal said 10 teams had been deployed in the city which were conducting inspections and any bare wire joint found during the exercise was being taped properly.
The inspections are also being conducted in parks/green belts.
Civic body officials appealed to residents that they should also take precautions, especially during the rainy season, and stay away from street light and power poles.
The residents can contact public representatives or local authorities in case they find any open wire joint on street light poles in their respective areas. They can also call toll free number 1800-121-484848 and submit their complaints regarding street lights. The civic body teams will take corrective steps at the earliest.
The officials said every step was being taken to ensure safety of residents.
