As soon as the incident was reported, SHO of the City police station inspector Varinder Singh Uppal and DSP (City) Jasyot Singh reached the scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Ludhiana rural) Ankur Gupta said Jaskirat had old enmity with the Jagraon-based youth and the latter along with his aides had cornered the victim on Tuesday night. After rendering critical injuries to the victim, the assailants fled the scene.

Regarding rumours of firing, the SSP said the assailants were not carrying fire arms, they only used sharp weapons in the attack. Even the SUV, which reduced to ashes, was checked by a forensic team and no clue about any firing was found.

“We have identified the key suspect with whom the deceased had an old rivalry. He brought aides along with him to commit the murder. Raids are being conducted at the whereabouts of the suspects and soon, they would be arrested and the exact reason of the attack would be known,” Gupta said.

Sources said the deceased was survived by his mother, wife and twin children.
