Stray animals, including dogs, cows and mules remain an unresolved issue in all three subdivisions of Malerkotla district.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier directed the state government to find a solution. However, several commuters have been still regularly getting injured due to the sudden appearance of stray animals roaming freely on the roads.

Residents of Dehliz Road in Ahmedgarh said the stray dogs and cows had made it impossible for them to walk around during early mornings and late evenings.

While appreciating the efforts of local gaushalas, an official of the local body said, “Besides supporting gaushalas through payments collected from cow cess, we have advised officials concerned in the municipal council to expedite the programme for sterilisation of canines to check the increase in population of stray dogs.”

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
