Panic gripped Gandhi Nagar in Model Gram here this morning after a stray dog attacked a 9-year-old boy named Sanidhya. The child was on his way to buy curd when the dog suddenly pounced on him, making him fall on the ground. The animal clawed and bit his face, injuring him on his head and jaw.
Hearing the boy’s cries, residents rushed to help, but the dog turned aggressive and attacked others as well. Some locals described the dog as “rabid” and claimed it had bitten several people in the area over the past some days.
Sanidhya’s father Desraj said his son tried to escape, but fell, after which the dog continued to chase and attack him for nearly a minute. “His face was covered in blood. People struggled to free him from the dog,” he recounted. The boy received first-aid at the Civil Hospital before being shifted to a private hospital for further treatment.
A local resident, Amanpreet Kaur, also reported being bitten by the same dog earlier today. She urged the authorities concerned to take immediate action to capture stray dogs posing a threat to public safety.
Meanwhile, area residents of Vikas Nagar are also complaining of dog-bite cases by a particular dog. The dog was later caught by the MC staff.
