Sweepers work on holiday to keep temple surroundings clean following Janmashtami

Sanitation workers sweeping roads and collecting garbage as usual came as a pleasant surprise for organisers and managers of religious organisations celebrating Krishana Janmashtami on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Despite being a public holiday on account of Sunday members of the sanitation branch at the Municipal Council worked to sweep roads and streets in front of temples

Beat incharges and sweepers came forward to help the organisers welcome devotees in a clean and hygienic environment when they visited temples in routine on Sunday morning. Sanitary superintendent Harpreet Singh said members of the sanitary branch deployed in beats housing temples had responded positively to an appeal made by councilors led by President Municipal Council Vikas Krishan Sharma regarding maintaining of clean and hygienic environment near venues of Janmashtami Celebrations during and after celebrations.

“Having received a call from President Municipal Council Vikas Krishan Sharma we persuaded members of the sanitation department to perform duty as usual on Sunday so that residents in general and devotees visting temples could feel better in paying obeisance at religious places even after celebrations,” said. He said the employees working on holiday would be given a compensatory leave according to their requirement.

Appreciating gestures shown by the officials and employees of the sanitation department, President Sharma said leaders of the Safai Mazdoor Union had already consented to get the cleanliness work done on holidays preceding and following celebration of functions during which larger gatherings

Wastage of eatables, used disposable cups and glasses and discarded packing materials are normally found strewn on roads and streets leading to religious places as a large number of langars and vends are established during celebration.
