The police have arrested a school teacher of Lehal village who had been accused of sexually harassing his girl students during school hours.

The suspect was nabbed on Tuesday evening as he was trying to leave the region after coming to know of the FIR at Malaud police station under Section 75 (2) of the BNS and Section 12 of the POCSO Act.

The accused has been identified as Hardeo Parsad Singh, a Maths teacher, who had been posted at Government Smart Senior Secondary School, at Lehal. Originally hailing from Bihar, the suspect lives at Sehora village presently.

Three girls of Class VII lodged a complaint with the school authorities about alleged undesired behavior of their teacher.

While the authorities at District Education Office, Ludhiana, were conducting an inquiry, parents of the affected girls lodged a formal complaint at Malaud police station on Tuesday evening following which the police registered an FIR and arrested the suspect.

Deputy DEO Jaswinder Singh headed the three member inquiry committee set up to verify allegations levelled by the girls and their parents.

Earlier, residents of Lehal and nearby villages, including parents of the victims, gathered at the school to protest against the alleged attempt of school authorities to shield the suspect. SHO Manjit Singh said the suspect was on Tuesday. “Action against any other accomplice would be taken on the basis of information received during the investigation,” Singh added.
