Several senior teachers in the district were left disappointed when they were asked to return midway from an event venue on the pretext that the hall was “full to capacity”.
The teachers, who had been directed by the District Education Officer (DEO) to attend a Breast Cancer Awareness programme titled “Unite for Pinktober” at Guru Nanak Bhawan yesterday, said they were caught in an unnecessary hassle despite having received official letters mandating their attendance.
Many teachers who had come from far-flung areas rued that upon reaching the venue around 11 am, they were told to go back as there was no space left to sit. “If there was no arrangement to accommodate us, what was the need to issue mandatory attendance letters?” questioned one teacher.
Another teacher shared that she had spent ?300 on a taxi to reach the venue from the periphery area, only to be sent back without attending the programme.
Meanwhile, District Education Officer (Secondary) Dimple Madan could not be contacted for comments despite repeated attempts.
