Following Tuesday night’s incident that left a tailor badly injured after two snatchers attacked him, the Cheema Chowk-RK Road route was jammed as a massive protest broke out. The protesters alleged that the police had failed to lodge a complaint against the miscreants. The traffic jam lasted for about an hour till 4 pm. The protesters alleged that they had been running from pillar to post as their complaint was not being registered at the Division No. 2 and Moti Nagar police stations. It was only after the intervention and assurance of the ACP in the area that the protesters agreed to discontinue the protest.

At the same time, there seems to be no respite in sight from snatching incidents in Ludhiana even though the police continues to crack the whip. The miscreants especially target vulnerable migrants while they commute to and from their places of work.

At Cheema Chowk, two miscreants targeted a tailor who was going home after work last night. The snatchers not only snatched the tailor’s mobile phone and wallet but also left him badly injured by attacking him with a sharp-edged weapon on his head.

According to the information available, the snatchers attacked 26-year-old Shehbaz, a resident of Street 7 in Janakpuri. After snatching his valuables, the snatchers fled the scene and left the victim injured. Passers-by noticed the injured man lying on the road and immediately rushed him to a nearby private nursing home. The attending doctor at the clinic referred the patient to the Civil Hospital, where he was administered eight stitches, it was reported.

The police are probing the matter.
