Training in pig farming concludes at vet varsity

Experts from the university delivered sessions on housing, breeding, nutrition, health management and marketing strategies related to pig production

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, successfully conducted a five-day pig farming training programme. The event witnessed participation from 40 trainees hailing from various districts of Punjab and Haryana.

Dr RS Grewal, Director of Extension Education, said the university was dedicated to the economic advancement, sustainability and well-being of livestock farmers and businesses and was making every effort to achieve the goal. He also said that pig farming had become quite popular among farmers because of its rapid growth and profitability and the university was giving farmers all the information and guidance need to start pig farming on a scientific basis.

Dr Jaswinder Singh, course director and HoD, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, said the training consisted of a blend of theory and practical sessions, equipping participants with scientific knowledge and hands-on skills in pig farming. Experts from the university delivered sessions on housing, breeding, nutrition, health management and marketing strategies related to pig production. A progressive pig farmer, Surinder Singh Khullar, also shared his experiences with the trainees. Dr Parminder Singh, Additional Director of Extension Education, chaired the valedictory session and appreciated the active involvement of participants and encouraged them to adopt pig farming as a sustainable livelihood option. Certificates were distributed to all the participants as a mark of their successful completion of the training. The programme was successfully coordinated by Dr Rajesh Kasrija and Dr Akshita Chadda.
