According to the transfer policy of the Education Department, 2,392 master cadre teachers and 569 lecturers, whose three-year probation ends this month, are eligible for transfer — to nearer stations — in all circumstances. The teachers are worried for their co-workers who are on duty at far off stations, those whose probation would end a few days after the last date of filing of applications for transfer, which is today, for the government has not provided any clarity on the issue.

There are 100-150 teachers, who were sent to places like Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Amritsar, which are 100-200 km away from Ludhiana and they want to be transferred to nearer stations. Daljit Singh Samrala, District president, Democratic teachers’ union

The teachers feel that these teachers will not be able to secure a transfer due to a difference of just a few days.

Democratic Teachers’ Union district president Daljit Singh Samrala and general secretary Harjit Singh Sudhar said the appointment of master cadre teachers was ordered in July 2021. The probation period of these teachers was to end in July, but the department had not yet issued any letter regarding their transfer.

“There are 100-150 teachers, who were sent to places like Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Amritsar, which are 100-200 km away from Ludhiana and they want to be transferred to nearer stations. However, since there will be a difference of just a few days in their eligibility, they will suffer. The government should give preference to teachers stationed far from their home districts. Other transfers can wait,” said Samrala.

“The ideal scenario would be to fill vacancies in these far off places with teachers from those areas. Teachers from Ludhiana should be transferred to nearby places,” said Sudhar.

Many teachers rued that the portal on which online applications for transfer were to be submitted, did not work properly and today was the last date of filing of applications. The teachers said that they would adopt the path of agitation if they are not considered for the transfer.
