A seminar was conducted by Sri Guru Ram Das Centre of Economic Growth (SGRDC), a research wing of Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, where Padam Vibushan Dr SS Johal, Chancellor, Central University, Bathinda, paid tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India.

Assistant Professor of Economics at University of Glasgow UK, Jalnidh Kaur, and Sajla Kalra, HOD (Economics) at SCD Govt College, Ludhiana, were the key speakers. Participants came across from varied walks of life — teachers from local colleges, ex-bankers and former Army officers and students.

While KB Singh, director, SGRDC, compeered the deliberations and spoke on the honesty of Manmohan Singh by quoting the incident of depositing the gains accrued to him from his foreign earnings by currency devaluation in the PM Relief Fund, which was his decision for the country.

Jalnidh appreciated the former PM’s commitment towards ushering academic excellence in India streamlining the process of research, selection and promotions of the teaching community while he was the chairman of UGC.
