Two get 5-year RI in snatching case
The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Shiv Mohan Garg has sentenced Rajnish, alias Rohit, and Prince, both residents of Purru Banga mohalla, Salem Tabri, here, to five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a snatching case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 each on the convicts.
The prosecution’s case dates back to July 25, 2018. On that day, ASI Swaran Singh, along with other police officials, were stationed near Shiv Mandir, Buddha Naullah, Salem Tabri. They noticed the accused approaching from the Shivpuri side on a motorcycle, being chased by the public. On seeing the police, the motorcyclists tried to flee but lost control and fell off their vehicle. They were apprehended on the spot.
The complainant, Sonali, a resident of the Gaushala road area, Harbans Pura, later recorded her statement, stating that she works as a computer operator at Singh Sabha Gurdwara factory and commutes to work with her brother Sahil Verma. On the day of the incident, around 6:15 pm, she and her brother were returning home on her Honda Activa scooter when two youths on a motorcycle snatched her purse near Bajwa Nagar Puli. She raised the alarm after which people starting chasing the culprits.
The accused were arrested and the stolen purse was recovered from them. The police registered an FIR against the duo under Section 379-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Division No 4 police station.
However, during the trial, the accused pleaded innocence. But after appreciating the evidence on record and convinced with submissions of the additional public prosecutor, the court found them guilty and sentenced accordingly.
