Despite numerous deadlines being set by the respective deputy commissioners (DCs) and MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to start the two Schools of Eminence — one in Millerganj area and the other in Kidwai Nagar— these are yet to see the light of day. For one reason or the other, the schools are yet to set up the required infrastructure.

Starting from former Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik to Sakshi Sawhney and now Jitendra Jorwal, an inspection of both the schools was conducted by these officials and claims made that schools would start soon. But till date, these have not been commissioned.

Despite attempts made to seek her views, District Education Officer Dimple Madan could not give a clear reply as to why the schools were not operational and whether the paucity of funds came in the way of proper infrastructure.

The fact remains that students and parents from these areas are eagerly waiting for these schools to start. The state government has claimed and emphasised that these Schools of Eminence will feature smart classrooms, modern infrastructure, laboratories, CCTV surveillance, besides indoor and outdoor playgrounds.

During a visit to the school, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal had instructed the executing agencies to enhance the façade of both the buildings and expedite the installation of projectors in classrooms, provide window blinds, rooftop solar panels and parking facilities, as well as raise the height of the existing boundary walls.

It may be mentioned that the School of Eminence (SoE) in Kidwai Nagar is being developed by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust, while the SoE in Millerganj is being constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The School of Eminence programme aims to revolutionise the education sector, promoting holistic development and a bright future for students. One SoE is already functional in Sector 32 and a majority of the students and parents want their wards to get admission in the SoE only. They are eagerly waiting for these two schools to open.

Though review meetings are being held, no one knows the reason why these two SoEs are getting delayed.

Deputy Commissioner Jorwal has pointed out that construction work at both schools is nearly complete and final touches are being given. He said that they are waiting for equipment to be installed in the classrooms.

It may be mentioned that the School of Eminence programme aims to bring about a revolution in the education sector for the holistic development of students and make bright future possible for them.
