Urban health centres to get more doctors
The Urban Community Health Centres (UCHCs) that have been reeling under severe staff shortages are finally expected to get a new lease of life as new appointments are being made by the state Health Department in the coming days, and UCHCs are hopeful of getting their share from the new recruits.
According to reports, posts of specialists will be filled by hiring doctors on contract. A walk-in interview is also being organised for the same by the department on February 28, and it is expected that Ludhiana might get new recruits. A total of 134 posts are being filled by the department, out of which 23 doctors will be stationed at Ludhiana.
In December, 400 new doctors were recruited, out of which only 17 were allocated to the district. They were assigned duties at Civil Hospitals in Ludhiana, Raikot, and Jagraon as the wait for doctors at the UCHCs only got longer.
There are six UCHCs in Ludhiana, at Chandigarh Road, Subhash Nagar, Civil Surgeon Complex, Shimlapuri, Giaspura and Jawaddi.
