PAU: US scientist delivers lecture on herbicide resistance in weeds

The Ludhiana Chapter of the Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA) at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) hosted an invited lecture by Dr Lovreet Singh Shergill, Assistant Professor of Weed Science at Colorado State University (CSU), on the topic of “Herbicide Resistance in Weeds.”

Dr Shergill, an alumnus of PAU, shared insights from his extensive research in weed biology, ecology, and integrated weed management strategies to combat herbicide-resistant weeds.

Having earned his PhD in Weed Science from the University of Adelaide, Australia, and previously serving as an Assistant Professor at Montana State University, Dr Shergill discussed the history of herbicide resistance and its evolution in various parts of the world.

The session also addressed practical solutions for managing herbicide resistance in the context of climate change and sustainable agriculture.

The talk was followed by an interactive Q&A session, with many scientists from other universities joining online. Dr. Harmeet Singh, Chairman of the Department of Agronomy at PAU, introduced the speaker. The event was organised in both offline and online formats.
