Vani of GCG wins gold in weightlifting

Vani Puri, a student of BA-II at Government College for Girls (GCG), here brought fame to her alma mater by winning a gold medal in the Northeast Zone Inter-University Weightlifting Championship, held at the Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, on January 20.

Vani competed in the below 49kg weight category and annexed top honours. For the outstanding performance, she has been selected to participate in the All India Inter-Universities Weightlifting Championship, scheduled to be held in Himachal Pradesh, next month.

Principal Suman Lata and Head of the Department of Physical Education Nivedita Sharma applauded her achievement and wished good luck for the national inter-universities championship.
