Varsity students gain food safety training, certification

The Department of Food Science and Technology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has organised an Advanced Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) programme for final-year B.Sc. Agriculture students.

PAU, an empanelled training partner with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), delivered certified training designed to create a skilled pool of food safety supervisors nationwide.

The course, led by authorised FoSTaC trainer Dr Sujata Pandit from Delhi, covered food safety management systems, hazard identification, hygiene practices and compliance with national and international food safety standards. Interactive modules and case studies formed a core part of the programme.

The training was coordinated by Dr Neha Babbar, Dr Hanuman Bobade, and Dr Antima Gupta. Dr Savita Sharma, head of the department, said, “This training enhances career prospects and strengthens India’s food safety culture.” Participants reported a boost in technical skills and confidence to work in the agri-food sector.
