The fire quickly spread to the house. Occupants of the house were sleeping inside when their neighbours called them. Afterwards, the victims ran outside to save their lives.
Four minor boys were reportedly arrested by the police for committing the crime.
The fire severely burnt the exterior part of the house and the health of a 90-year-old woman got deteriorated due to suffocation. CCTV cameras installed outside the house captured the miscreants.
The house owner, Amarpal Singh, said around 2:30 am, some miscreants came close to the vehicles parked outside the house and set them on fire. After coming to know about the incident, they ran outside for safety. In no time, the fire spread to the front portion of the house. They tried to douse the flames by pouring water. Four of their vehicles were damaged in the fire.
“If there had been a delay of a few minutes, there would have been casualties,” said Gurpreet Kaur, a woman.
“We barely saved our lives after neighbours informed us about the incident,” he said.
ADCP Sameer Verma said four minor boys were arrested in the case. The suspects were not drug addicts rather they resorted to mischievous activity. They had no enmity with the house owner.
