The Veterinary Students Union of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has formally announced an indefinite strike beginning September 25, citing dissatisfaction with the current stipend provided to the Bachelor of Vocational Science and Animal Husbandry interns.
In a statement issued by the union, the students expressed “deep concern and dissatisfaction” over the stipend structure, which they claim does not reflect prevailing inflationary trends and remains significantly lower than that of veterinary interns in neighbouring states.
Over the past several months, representatives of the union have held discussions with key officials, including Animal Husbandry Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, Cabinet minister Aman Arora and the university authorities. Despite these efforts, no “concrete resolution” has been reached.— TNS
