Vet varsity charts record sales of meat-based, dairy products during Pashu Palan Mela

Total revenue worth nearly Rs 14L generated, orders worth Rs 35L secured from various institutions in two days

The Pashu Palan Mela at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) witnessed an overwhelming response from visitors with significant sales of livestock feed supplements, fish, milk and meat-based products. The event reinforced the university’s role in promoting breed improvement, scientific livestock farming, and high-quality animal-based products for the public.

Vice-Chancellor JPS Gill, stated, “The encouraging response of farmers and the impressive sales figures reflect the trust in the university’s research-backed products. Our focus remained on developing innovative and scientifically proven livestock solutions to enhance farmers’ profitability and animal productivity.”

The university’s animal nutrition products saw a remarkable demand, generating a total revenue of around Rs14 lakh in two days and securing orders worth Rs 35 lakh from various institutions like Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) for feed supplements.

The top-selling items included Type-2 mineral mixture, area-specific mineral mixture, mineral mixture for pigs and fishes, bypass fat and uromin lick. These products, designed to cater to diverse livestock needs, earned appreciation from farmers for their role in enhancing animal health and productivity.

Fish-based value-added products were another major attraction, generating Rs 1.22 lakh in sales. Visitors enthusiastically purchased ready-to-eat fish delicacies such as momos, bites, burgers, tikki, samosa, fingers, fillet, and chaat. The increasing demand for fish-based foods reflected a shift towards healthy and protein-rich dietary choices.

Additionally, the university’s meat products, including chicken Nuggets, goat meat nuggets, chicken pickle, meatballs, patties, meat samosas, and boiled eggs generated Rs 40,000 in sales, highlighting the increasing consumer interest in high-quality processed meat products.

The dairy section recorded impressive sales of Rs 1.53 lakh, offering a diverse range of 16 milk-based products, including flavoured milk, ice creams, lassis, burfi, milk cake, kulfi, and dhoda burfi. These traditional and innovative dairy items gained popularity among farmers, emphasising the demand for fresh and high-quality dairy products.
