Vidhan Sabha panel to recommend CBI probe into Ludhiana's Buddha Dariya project

Ludhiana, July 26

Chairman of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Committee-cum-AAP MLA from Ludhiana West Gurpreet Gogi said today that the committee would recommend CBI probe into the Rs 650-crore Buddha Dariya rejuvenation project. He chaired a meeting of the committee at Bachat Bhawan here on Friday.

Interestingly, committee members while discussing the project were shocked to know that more than 95 per cent payment had already been made to the contractor while little is done on the ground.

Gogi said he told MC officials to take immediate action against erring dyeing units flowing waste into the Buddha Dariya.

“We are sending a report to the government to highlight the issue of the Buddha Dariya and will demand a CBI probe so that erring officials who are not taking action against the dyeing units can be taken to task,”he said.

Meanwhile, the committee reviewed the ongoing and proposed projects in Ludhiana city and other sub-divisions of the district, including Khanna. MLAs Madan Lal Bagga, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Amansher Singh Shery Kalsi, Ajitpal Singh Kohli, Amandeep Kaur Arora, Jeevanjyot Kaur, Neena Mittal and Avtar Singh Junior were among other committee members present.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Chahal, MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi and senior officials from various departments, including Revenue, municipal committees, NHAI and Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

Other projects reviewed in the meeting including the 24×7 canal-based water supply project, projects under the Smart City Mission, Elevated Road project, other NHAI projects, PSPCL and solid waste management, etc. The officials were given directions to ensure transparency and expedite ongoing projects.

Gogi emphasised that the committee’s recommendations would be submitted to the Vidhan Sabha for further action.

Earlier, the MLAs also planted tree saplings at the District Administrative Complex here.
