Ludhiana, August 4
The Vascular Society of India (VSI) was founded on August 6, 1994, and this date is observed as the National Vascular Day. The VSI, this year, organised a walkathon in over 30 cities on Sunday to spread awareness on vascular health conditions.
With the year’s motto ‘to create an amputation-free India’, a walkathon was organised at Rakh Bagh, Ludhiana, in which over 500 attendees participated.
Dr Pranay Pawar, Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery, at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, said that due to the diabetic epidemic in India, hospitals witnessed a large number of patients with diabetic foot problems and that the treatment was delayed due to lack of awareness and proper management. Timely treatment by vascular surgeons would go a long way in preventing the majority of diabetes-related amputations, saving lives, he added. — TNS
