West constituency bypoll date likely to be announced this week
Post ceasefire between India and Pakistan, it is expected that the much-awaited bypoll in the Ludhiana West constituency can be announced this week itself. Candidates from all main parties stated that they expect that the elections would be announced by Sunday and the entire election procedure will be completed in around 30 days.
Confirming the development, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Himanshu Jain said there was no confirmation so far but it was expected to be announced soon.
“Then we will be having a period of about 30 days to complete the election process (filing of papers, scrutiny, withdrawal, objections, polling, etc),” the Deputy Commissioner said.
AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora said since frequent meetings were held by the Election Commission regarding the bypoll, it gives an indication that the elections could be announced anytime.
“All candidates and parties know about it, it would be just a formal announcement by the commission,” he said.
Mamta Ashu, wife of Congress Candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, said they also came to know that the announcement regarding the bypoll date would be done anytime by the Election Commission as everything was ready.
“We are fully prepared for the elections. Meetings and door-to-door canvassing are on and we are getting a good response,” she said.
Meanwhile, the BJP candidate is yet to be announced and the party is waiting for the election date to be announced first.
The rising temperatures have not dampened spirits of the parties and their candidates. In peak hours, they hold public meetings on many occasions. Otherwise, they, along with supporters, meet voters throughout the day.
