Ludhiana, July 8

While the Union Government is determined to promote ‘Make in India’, the reality appears to be quite different. Buyers from across the country have come to Ludhiana to place orders for the upcoming winter season, and they want their clothes made of China-made fabrics. The Ludhiana Woollen Manufacturers’ Association is hosting a three-day exhibition at a premier hotel. Today was the second day of the exhibition.

The Chairman of the association, Sanju Dhir, stated that buyers from all over the country, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir, desired Chinese fabric and yarn.

“The manufacturers would go with the buyer’s preference because they had given us good orders. The buyers wanted only Chinese fabric for ladies’ kurtis, and Chinese yarn for men’s products. There was no demand for Indian cloth,” said Dhir.

During the ‘Winter-Show 2024’, local manufacturers will gain an understanding of what buyers want and what is in vogue. In the absence of an exhibition centre in Ludhiana, the three-day event is being held at a hotel on Ferozepur road, where 147 rooms have been reserved to showcase kurtis, jackets, pullovers, lowers, sweatshirts, tracksuits, etc.

These three days are crucial for the hosiery industry in Ludhiana, as they expect to receive projects amounting to more than Rs 100 crore. Local manufacturers are showcasing their best products to attract more buyers. In the last two days, over 1,500 buyers have visited the exhibition, with the number expected to exceed 2,000 over the next three days.

The manufacturers stated that samples were prepared in accordance with the most recent trends, glamour and style. Manufacturers often include accessories in their final products and many are using cutting-edge machinery to have an innovative edge.
