The police remained on its toes after a woman of Chhanna village climbed up the village water tank along with her minor grandson and granddaughter on Tuesday morning.

However, in a timely and prompt rescue operation, SHO (City) Aditya Sharma managed to bring them down. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajan Sharma supervised the operations and subsequent counselling of the woman.

Though the police stated that family reasons and social tension were the reasons behind the incident, investigations revealed that the woman was upset over a sequence of events which took place during the past one year.

A perusal of records at the police station revealed that the woman, identified as Harjinder Kaur alias Toffy, was booked under section 295 and 500 of IPC on the statement of Dr Sandeep Singh of Chhanna village on February 26, 2024.

While the said case is pending in a court at Malerkotla, Harjinder Kaur had lodged a complaint against some of her rivals at the local police station on January 13, which is under investigation.

SHO Aditya Sharma claimed that immediately after receiving the information, the woman and children were brought down from atop the water tank and allowed a meeting with DSP Rajan Sharma at his office. The SHO claimed that Kaur had cited mental tension caused by family and social reasons that made her climb atop the water tank along with her grandchildren. “As we are yet to record a formal statement, we have asked her to relax for the time being and submit a statement at her convenience so that the issue can be resolved,” said Aditya Sharma.
