Woman jumps from rooftop, dies

A woman died by suicide by jumping from the rooftop of her in-laws’ house on Rahon Road. The police registered an abetment to suicide case against the deceased’s husband and mother-in-law.

The victim was identified as Ayasha Noori, alias Arjoo.

The complainant, Mohd Feroz Alam, deceased’s father, told the police that he solemnised her daughter’s marriage with Ambar Raja of Gautam Colony, Rahon Road, about 13 years ago. The couple had two sons and a daughter. During marriage, a motorcycle and Rs 2 lakh cash were given as dowry to her in-laws. Even after marriage, the suspects continued to demand dowry. Recently, Rs 50,000 was given to his son-in-law but his hunger for dowry did not end even after years of marriage. His mother Khairon Nisha had also been torturing the victim for dowry.

A few days ago, the victim’s husband beaten up the woman as her in-laws were demanding more money. On July 13, she died by suicide by jumping from the rooftop of her in-laws’ house. She was taken to the CMCH where doctors declared her dead.

The Tibba police have registered a case against the deceased’s husband and mother-in-law. They were yet to be arrested.
