Nearly three dozen women in the region were felicitated by office-bearers and activists of an international organisation on the completion of a training course in skin and hair care.

The organisational setup for the training was provided by local HARF Charitable Trust with the help of mother NGO Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA).

While some of the apprentices have already launched their own ventures with the intent of becoming self-reliant, others intend to explore chances for a brighter future in foreign countries.

Amarjit Singh, convener of the event, said the trust had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SOSVA for starting short-term occupational courses, initially for women.

Amarjit said each trainee was provided a free kit worth Rs 1,500. The course fee was Rs 1,200.

HARF Charitable Trust chairman Amjad Ali argued that skill enhancement was the only medium for the empowerment of women in rural and urban localities. He urged social organisations to facilitate women in becoming self-reliant.

Dr Tanvir Hussain and advocate Iqbal Ahmedgarh felicitated the trainees.
