World Physiotherapy Day observed

The College of Physiotherapy, Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC&H), Ludhiana, celebrated World Physiotherapy Day by organising a symposium on this year’s theme “Healthy Ageing: The Role of Physiotherapy and Physical Activity in Preventing Frailty and Falls” at the hospital auditorium.

The occasion was graced by Dr William Bhatti, Director, CMCH; Vijay Maini, Director, Hindustan Cycles and Tubes Pvt Ltd, as the chief guest; Dr Jaspreet Singh Vij, Associate Professor, University College of Physiotherapy, BFUHS, Faridkot, as the keynote speaker; along with Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian, Principal, Christian Medical College, and Dr Allen Joseph, Medical Superintendent.

The event began with an opening address by Dr Simran, followed by a word of prayer by Rev Nitin. The college choir then presented a soulful performance, setting a graceful tone for the day. This was followed by the lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolising knowledge and enlightenment. This was followed by a welcome address by Prof Sandeep Saini, Principal, College of Physiotherapy, who introduced the theme of the symposium and extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries. The director and chief guest, in their addresses, highlighted the growing importance of physiotherapy in ensuring healthy ageing and preventing falls among the elderly.

A felicitation ceremony was also held to honour the distinguished guests. The highlight of the symposium was the keynote lecture by Dr Jaspreet Singh Vij on “Evidence-Based Practice: Patients’ Perspective”, which offered valuable insights into patient-centred approaches and the role of research-driven physiotherapy practices.

College students participated in a poster-making competition. The event highlighted the importance of physiotherapy in improving quality of life. Students prepared creative and informative posters which showcased how physiotherapy is changing lives and enabling smooth ageing. Faculty members interacted with students and appreciated their efforts.

The overview of the physiotherapy services at CMC Ludhiana was presented by Dr Vishakha, which highlighted the department’s wide range of specialised services and contributions to patient care. The vote of thanks was delivered by Vice Principal Dr Dorcas.

The event provided a meaningful platform for healthcare professionals, faculty, and students to engage in discussions, exchange knowledge, and reflect on physiotherapy’s vital role in enhancing the quality of life for the ageing population.
