The Ludhiana (rural) police have booked a youth of Jain Colony, Barewal village, in Ludhiana, under Sections 64 of the BNS and 4 of the POCSO Act for allegedly raping a minor girl.
The suspect, identified as Manu Shah, had allegedly kept the victim at a hotel in the city and sexually assaulted after taking her from her house in Jagraon on September 28. The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was asked to take her documents and cash from her home on the fateful day.
The victim’s mother informed the police on Thursday that the suspect had allured and violated her minor daughter on the pretext of marriage on September 28. The youth deserted her on October 1, when she asked him to keep his promise of marrying her.
The complainant said the victim was brought from the city to Jagraon after she narrated her story to her mother over phone on October 1.
Police officials, led by investigating officer Kirandeep Kaur, have initiated a probe into the sequence of events. The suspect is yet to be arrested.
