A youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the Indira Colony on April 24, with drug overdose being suspected to be the cause of death. A friend of the deceased has been arrested by the police in the case.
The mother of the deceased alleged that a person named Rinka had given her son an overdose of drugs, which led to his death. The police yesterday registered a case against Rinka on the charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and also arrested him.
The complainant and the deceased’s mother told the police that her son, a motor mechanic, had been into drugs for quite some time. Rinka used to provide drugs to her son, who was under medication from the Civil Hospital and CMC Hospital, Ludhiana, to quit drugs.
The complainant further said that someone informed her that her son’s body was lying in Indira Colony. When she reached the spot, her son’s body had already been taken to the Civil Hospital, where she identified the body. Her son had gone to take medicines at the Civil Hospital, but unfortunately died due to alleged drug overdose.
She further revealed that Rinka used to provide drugs to her son despite her objections. Investigation officer ASI Prem Chand said that the police had taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination.
