Office-bearers and activists of social, educational and constitutional bodies have announced a coordinated movement to sensitise the youth about the causes and consequences of social evils including drugs abuse, illiteracy and violence.
An oath to take meaningful action in communities while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for youths was taken during the concluding sessions of events held on the occasion of International Youth Day in the town and its surrounding localities.
Addressing the office-bearers and activists of international service organisations of the region, International Director, PDG, TN Subramanian Raju said that leaders of service organisations should focus attention on enabling the youth of their respective areas to compete with their counterparts from other developed countries and motivate them to come out of their comfort zones.
“We have to tell our youth that comfort zone is beautiful but nothing grows here,” said Raju highlighting the necessity of platforms for leadership development, skill training and providing opportunities for social impact desired to be made by the Indian youth at the international level.
Raju stressed on the need to shun ‘ego’ and negative traits while identifying, inviting and inducting new members in any service organisation.
“Growth with quality should be the sole criterion while inducting new members and establishing new units,” stressed Raju adding that the motto ‘Service above Self’ should be followed by constituents of all international service organisations.
PDG Amjad Ali said District Governor Bhupesh Mehta and DGE Amit Bansal had announced to launch an intensive programme to help the youth brighten their career by organising short-term training and orientation courses at around 100 localities of Punjab, Haryana
and Rajasthan.
Awareness about causes and consequences of social evils, providing education, promoting entrepreneurship, supporting community development and equipping youths with the tools required to create a positive change in the region will remain the priority of the programme, said Ali.
Ghanshyam Kansal, a senior functionary of District Industrial Chamber, Malerkotla, claimed that owners and managers of leading industrial groups had been roped in for organising workshops and seminars for spreading awareness about various avenues of self-employment by installing ancillary units and network for supplying inputs regularly.
The International Youth Day was also celebrated at Victoria Public Senior Secondary School, Wisdom World Public School, MGMN Senior Secondary School and HARF College by organising workshops and seminars.
