Municipal Corporation to spend Rs 186 crore on laying sewer pipelines in Yamunanagar, Jagadhri

The Municipal Corporation (MC) will spend Rs 186 crore to improve the sewerage system in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. This decision was taken at the House meeting of the MC held in Yamunanagar on Friday under the chairmanship of Mayor Suman Bahamani.

At the House meeting, a proposal came up to solve the problem of overflowing sewage and shortage of drinking water in the area under the MC. On this issue, Mayor Suman Bahamani and Commissioner Akhil Pilani sought a reply from officials of the Public Health Engineering Department. Officials told the House that around 20 km sewage pipeline would be laid in the Jagadhri area. They said a sewage treatment plant (STP) would be set up by spending Rs 75 crore. They said apart from this, 114 km sewage pipeline would be laid in the Yamunanagar area by spending around Rs 114 crore.

They said these sewage pipelines would be laid in all colonies under in the MC’s jurisdiction. The sewerage system of the city would improve considerably after laying pipelines, they added. Apart from this, damaged lids of sewer manholes would be replaced with new ones, they said.

Earlier, Rs 99 lakh was spent on constructing a metalled road heading from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk to Agrasain Chowk. At the MC House meeting, a proposal was passed to pay this amount of Rs 99 lakh to the agency concerned for constructing the road.

Other proposals passed at the MC House meeting include installation and repair of water harvesting systems in wards, formation of Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) under the supervision of councillors to take care of the community centres and parks in every ward of the MC, inspecting vacant land for building a community centre near Mukand Lal School in Sarojini Colony, holding plantation drivers in all wards and initiating beautification work on both sides of the stretch heading from Maharaja Agrasen Chowk to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk on Railway Road.
