Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu on Tuesday instructed the officials of the Municipal Town Planning (MTP) wing to submit lists of illegal buildings in their areas. In a review meeting, the Mayor said whenever the MC Commissioner asked the MTP wing officials to take action against any building, they did not take any action against it.
“The practice has been encouraging the violators and illegal construction works have been completed at several buildings. These buildings should have been demolished or sealed,” said Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu.
The Mayor asked the Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) and building inspectors to submit complete lists of illegal constructions in their respective area.
The Mayor also instructed them to ask the residents not to start any construction without getting its plan approved from the MC. “The MTP wing should approve the building plans without any delay. It would help residents and the MC will get financial benefits. I have asked to prepare compound case of illegal buildings. The illegal structures, which cannot be made a compound case should be demolished or sealed. I will visit illegal buildings to check the action taken by the MC.
