New Delhi: The CBI has arrested three Customs officials for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from a television screen importer, officials said. According to officials, two superintendents — Surendra Singh and Ajeet Kumar — and Inspector Sandeep Rathi, all posted at the Customs’ Inland Container Depot, Tughlakabad, during a trap operation, when they were allegedly receiving the first instalment of Rs 4 lakh of a Rs 10 lakh bribe demanded by them. — TNS
CBI books IFFCO MD, others in graft case
New Delhi: The CBI on Wednesday said it had registered an FIR on charges of corruption against managing director and CEO of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) US Awasthi, managing director of Indian Potash Limited Parvinder Singh Gahlaut and their sons among others for alleged irregularities in the import of fertilisers and claiming subsidies on them. During search on the premises of Awasthi, CBI sleuths recovered Rs 8.80 lakh in cash, while at the residence of Gahlaut FDR worth over Rs 5.5 crore in the name of Parvinder Singh. — TNS

Chandigarh: As reports of operation to rescue crew members of the sunk barge ‘P305’ came in, anxious family members of those missing from Punjab kept making frantic calls for information on survivors.
