Five people were killed and a woman injured when their car fell into gorge near Rishikesh here, police said on Thursday.

The accident took place at around 10 am on NH 58 between Devprayag and Rishikesh near Saknidhar in Tehri district, they said.

The car fell into a 300-metre deep gorge, police said. Five persons were killed on the spot while a woman was injured. The woman was rushed to AIIMS, Rishikesh, they said.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police personnel launched a search and rescue operation immediately after the incident. — PTI
