Lucknow, March 31
Six nationals from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan who reportedly attended the Tablighi Jamaat meeting in Delhi earlier this month were found holed up in a masjid in Lucknow today.
Following a tip-off, Lucknow police commissioner Sujeet Pandey and other officials reached the Markazi Masjid in Qaiserbagh where they found six foreign nationals staying.
Eighteen districts of UP have been put on high alert following reports that people from these districts attended the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi.
The UP Police on Tuesday launched a concerted effort to track down people who had attended the Delhi meeting and gone underground in various cities of the state.
Taking the matter seriously, CM Yogi Adityanath cut short his Ghaziabad review meeting this morning to return to Lucknow to take stock of the situation. Alert has been sounded in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Hapur, Bijnor, Baghpat, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Mathura, Agra, Sitapur, Barabanki, Prayagraj, Bahraich, Gonda and Balrampur. The state has obtained a list of the Tablighi Jamaat attendees. — TNS
