After a gap of several weeks, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Punjab has come down to less than 10,000.
Last month, the average number of active cases on any given day was around 20,000. The graph started witnessing a decline in the beginning of this month with the fall in the number of fresh cases and higher recoveries.
In the first 10 days of October, the average number of active cases remained around 12,000 cases. The same came down to 9,752 on Saturday.
The positivity rate too has come down drastically to 4 per cent in the first week and showing further decline in last three days. Punjab is collecting around 30,000 samples per day. Its recovery rate is nearing 89 per cent, which is higher than the national average of 85 per cent.
Health Minister Balbir Sidhu said: “With testing made easier and norms for home isolation simpler, people are coming forward to get themselves tested. The number of patients getting treatment in hospitals has decreased considerably. The state is also seeing lesser number of deaths.”
