Actor Asif Basra, a familiar face in Bollywood movies and TV shows, allegedly died by suicide at his rented accommodation in Dharamsala’s McLeodganj area today.
Asif had reportedly taken two houses on lease on the Jogibara Road and was staying here with his UK-based girlfriend.
Around 10.30 am, the actor stepped out of his house with his pet dog for a walk. When he didn’t return, his girlfriend went looking for him and found his body hanging on the roof of his second house, it is learnt.
Asif was a regular visitor to McLeodganj for the past several years and would spend months at the hill station. He was often spotted at Jogibara Road cafes.
Kangra SP Vimukt Ranjan said Asif’s girlfriend informed them about the incident. “The actor’s body was found hanging from his pet dog’s leash,” he said. The police said preliminary investigation suggested he was suffering from depression.
In his decade-long career, Asif worked in several films, including “Jab We Met”, “Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai”, “Kai Po Che!”, “Black Friday” and “Parzania”. He recently played a prominent role in a web television series “Patal Lok”.
