New Delhi, February 14
A Delhi court on Sunday remanded a Bengaluru-based student, Disha Ravi, to five-day police custody after the Delhi Police arrested her yesterday for allegedly editing the controversial farmer protest toolkit posted on Twitter by climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.
“I have only edited two lines of the toolkit to express support for the agitating farmers,” said Ravi, a climate activist, breaking down in the courtroom where cops sought her weeklong police remand.
The Delhi Police cyber cell arrested Ravi from Bengaluru on Saturday alleging her to be part of a larger “pro-Khalistan” agenda. They alleged she had edited the Greta Thunberg toolkit.
The police had in the aftermath of Republic Day violence in Delhi registered cases against “pro-Khalistan” creators (read people, including Thunberg) of the “toolkit” and for waging a “social, cultural and economic war against the government of India”. The case against unnamed persons was registered on charges of criminal conspiracy, sedition and other IPC sections.
The cops also wrote to social media firms, including Google, to provide information about email IDs, URLs and other information with respect to those who created the “toolkit” posted by Thunberg on her Twitter account when she expressed solidarity with the agitating Indian farmers.
The Congress has expressed solidarity with Ravi with veteran leader Jairam Ramesh saying, “Completely atrocious. This is unwarranted harassment and intimidation.”
