New Delhi, July 22
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday directed airlines not to bar passengers from boarding owing to disability or reduced mobility.
In case airline employees perceive that health of such passenger might deteriorate during the flight, he/she would have to be examined by a doctor who will state whether the person was fit to fly, it said. “After obtaining medical opinion, the airline shall take an appropriate decision on the carriage of the passenger. In case of refusal of carriage by the airline, it shall inform the passenger in writing with reasons immediately,” a press release issued by the DGCA said.
The DGCA said it had amended the ‘Carriage by Air — Persons with Disability (Divyangjan) and/or persons with reduced mobility’ for the purpose.
