Lucknow, December 23
In a belated damage-control measure Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor on Monday appointed Chemistry PhD student Mohd Tariq as an assistant professor on adhoc basis in AMU’s department of chemistry.
When the police unleashed a reign of terror on the campus on the night of December 15, Tariq had suffered grievous injury in his right hand in which all his fingers had been shattered.
Tariq, a JRF and NET qualified PhD scholar, had to get his palm amputed to save the infection from spreading.
According to AMU’s official spokesperson, the appointment has been done with immediate effect. Earlier in the evening a large number of students, teachers and non teaching staff took out a candle light procession raising slogans against the Vice Chancellor for calling the police on the campus.
On Sunday AMU VC Tariq Mansoor also instituted an internal fact-finding inquiry by Justice (retired) V K Gupta.
