Assam poll: BJP drops 11 sitting MLAs

n The BJP released its first list of 70 candidates for the Assam polls and announced that allies Asom Gana Parishad and United People’s Party Liberal will contest on 26 and eight seats, respectively.

n Party general secretary Arun Singh said CM Sarbananda Sonowal would contest from Majuli and minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
