• Doctors across India have begun calling mucormycosis an “epidemic within a pandemic”

• It is mostly seen in diabetic Covid-19 patients on steroids

• It affects face, nose, eyes and brain, can cause blindness and even removal of jaw bone besides affecting lungs

Symptoms

• Headache, nose secretions, bleeding from the nose, blood in cough, lack of sensation in the face, one-sided swelling on the face

Precautions

• Diabetics must control blood sugar levels

• No steroid therapy for mild Covid patients

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
