In line with the Centre’s bids to reduce the number of exams for recruiting government employees, plans are afoot to integrate the process of taking in officers in paramilitary forces with the civil services examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) that selects IAS and IPS officers.
Sources in the government said a proposal in this regard was under consideration particularly in the backdrop of Centre’s decision to grant the Organised Group A Service (OGAS) categorisation to Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) last year. CAPFs include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB.
The organised service tag allows a service to have its own recruitment rules and enhanced avenues for promotion, pay, command and deputation of its officers.
Sources say a deliberation is underway to improve upon the scheme and syllabus of the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) exam that is being currently conducted by the UPSC. Officers recruited lead these forces deployed to ensure internal security and India’s vast land boundary. — TNS
