The anti-graft probe central agency CBI on Tuesday said it has arrested a senior passport official posted at Jammu regional office for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant.
CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi said the agency registered a case on a complaint alleging that Senior Passport Assistant Adarsh Kumar, posted at Regional Passport Office (RPO), Jammu, had demanded a bribe for issuance of passport of the complainant.
“The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000. Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused at Jammu and Lucknow,” Joshi said.
“In the complaint it was alleged that the complainant had applied for issuance of passport in the month of January 2020 and contacted the RPO, Jammu, where he was allegedly informed that an FIR has been registered against him and due to this, issuance of passport was pending,” the CBI spokesperson said.
“The complainant further informed the agency that he was acquitted in the said FIR. Thereafter, he visited the Passport Office and met Kumar and he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 for issuing a passport and agreed to accept Rs 4,000 after negotiation,” he said.
